Updates

Having been back in the US for a year now, it’s been great to get back to speaking at conferences. Living in Europe for five years (including during COVID), and without my existing networks, I didn’t have these opportunities. While my research is about market policy, I’ve started translating that to audiences– in the case of this picture, at the InTents farmers market conference in March in San Diego. Bringing my background in municipal government (former mayor) along with my food policy expertise, I am motivated to help these two audiences learn how to better talk to each other. To this audience of farmers market leaders, I broke down the basics of municipal government in the US — ordinances, zoning, planning, and more. In September I’ll be speaking at a statewide convention of cities, and will be helping that audience understand what food policy can look like in simple, pragmatic ways they can implement with little cost, but big impact.
